About the Retiree Storytelling Project
Community Volunteer Connections wants to shine a light on the extraordinary stories of retirees (from retirees, about retirees and by retirees) about the ways they volunteer to enrich their lives and their communities.
We’re inspired by the stories of retirees who volunteer in their communities. So much so that our Executive Director (along with with the Ali Parendeh), set out to talk to retirees to find out what motivates them to volunteer.
Stacy and Ali met with retirees, some actively involved in volunteer and other hoping to volunteer, to talk about Volunteering After Retirement.
They learned that volunteering
- brings meaning to the lives of volunteers;
- connects them with their community;
- helps them learn new skills and hone existing ones; and
- is a rewarding way to spend time and is, for many retiree volunteers, what helps them thrive in this new phase of their lives.
Retiree after retiree remarked on how volunteering helped make the transition from working life to retirement into an enriching one. The benefits of volunteering were often more significant and surprising than expected.
That amazing afternoon of heartfelt conversation inspired the Retiree Volunteer Storytelling Project.
About the Retiree Volunteer Storytelling Project
Community Volunteer Connections is connecting with retiree volunteers to hear their stories and the life lessons learned from volunteering.
We’re interviewing 10-15 volunteers in the TriCities communities and will feature their stories on our blog and in the community.
Do you have a story about volunteering? Are you a retiree who volunteers? Please get in touch with us to share your story!
