by Kelly Diels on March 26, 2010

The New Horizons for Seniors program is a great little funding stream focused on projects that will engage “seniors” (defined as retirees, so think 55+!) in their communities as leaders.

They are holding Information Sessions in the Lower Mainland on March 30 and 31:

Maple Ridge Public Library
130 – 22470 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge BC
Coquitlam       1:30 – 4:30 pm

Please RSVP by e-mail to raye.lee@servicecanada.gc.ca as space is limited.

The New Horizons for Seniors Community Participation and Leadership grant offers up to $25,000 for community-based projects that encourage seniors to participate in and contribute to their communities through volunteerism, mentorship and civic leadership.

Another funding component – Capital Assistance Program – will be discussed, although the Call For Applications for the Capital Assistance Program will not be held until the fall, 2010.

For more information please visit: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/community_partnerships/seniors/index.shtml

Community Volunteer Connections received funding through this program three years ago, to encourage new retirees to get involved as volunteers.

If your organization has some great ideas about working with seniors, I encourage you to check out the New Horizons for Seniors Information Session.

If you’d like any advice from us on writing a successful proposal, please let CVC know!

I work at a residential care facility in Surrey, BC, and we have seniors interested in using computers. I wonder if your program would be available to our elders.
We are in the process of replacing our 35 year-old building with a new one, due to open fall 2011, and I am also interested in and any computer-related capital funding that may be available.
I would appreciate some information about this and knowing of your upcoming information sessions.

Kind regards,

B.C. Muslim Association (BCMA) has among its 60,000 members a good number of seniors. The Department of Social Service of the association has been providing limited assistance due to its modist resources. As the director of the the Social service dep. I would like to request the grant application form for Community Participation and Leadership Funding either through email to this address or hard copy to:
